That evening, we’ll be showcasing a variety of performances, installations, and concerts, that will showcase our new role as co-residents of the vibrant Blikfabriek project.

This dual performance will take place at the Blikfabriek in Hoboken, a unique location and a vibrant artist collective. The combination of “4JIMI,” with its powerful artistic message, and “Entangled Matches,” with its accessible, connecting character, offers a rich and inclusive musical experience., “Voltage Controlling the Wind,” and you can experience “These Birds are Flying to the North.”

“4JIMI”
A piece for a swarm of electric guitars.
4JIMI originated fifteen years ago as part of the PowerFlower production, a project that brought together around thirty Antwerp guitarists in a unique swarm of sounds. The plan is to recreate this with an even larger group of guitarists.
“4JIMI” is inspired by Jimi Hendrix’s iconic Woodstock performance, where he “tore the American national anthem to shreds.” The project builds on the idea of collective music-making through an edited video of this legendary recording, where fragments were stretched and looped.
Participants were invited to play along with the video as best they could, in their own way and within their capabilities, without strict direction.
Individual interpretation was central, resulting in a unique swarm of sounds in which the spirit of Hendrix shone through, but in which each participant found their own voice. The choice of Hendrix’s interpretation was symbolic: it represents rebellion, freedom, and the reshuffling of established values, themes central to this concept.
This project is an example of a “Swarm Composition,” in which the classic pyramid structure of composer, score, and performers is abandoned. It encourages shared responsibility and creativity, resulting in a dynamic, organic structure that functions like a swarm rather than a top-down machine.

Entangled Matches
For this re-performance, we want to pair “4JIMI” with a second, complementary work: “Entangled Matches.”
This is a participatory sound artwork that everyone can play along with, where rhythm, space, and connection converge.
Simple matchboxes create a swarm of sounds that moves around the audience, from whisper-soft to stormy. The title refers to “quantum entanglement,” in which two particles remain connected, even at great distances.
This work evokes a similar, palpable connection—between performers and audience, between sound and space, and between people at a distance.
Each performance of “https://champdaction.be/4jimi” is unique and can vary in format, sometimes even across the globe, with the internet acting as an invisible “guide wave.”
It is a collective experience of sound and togetherness.
